Your role

In this position, you take on a broad and central role within Nurme Turvas and AS Torf, while also connecting with four other companies in the group: Nevema, Freepeat, MeeGaa Substrates, and Lensli Substrates. Together with the owner, you manage operations, sales, procurement, permits & contracts, and guide the integration of Nurme Turvas into the broader group strategy.

Operational management (≈ 50%)

Half of your time is devoted to running and coordinating operations. You are the one who:

  • Oversees technical operations, office activities, finance, the packaging line, and transport
  • Manages the peat harvesting process, ensuring that timing and quality align with changing weather conditions and logistics
  • Handles permits and contracts, making sure all regulatory requirements are secured efficiently
  • Stays in close contact with the owner to share insights and data on extraction, transport, and day-to-day decisions
  • Creates clear reports and summaries that support fact-based decision-making and transparency
  • Keeps a forward-looking perspective, applying modern communication trends to ensure effective coordination and engagement

Sales and procurement (≈ 30%)

Another large part of your role revolves around sales growth and supplier management. You are the person who:

  • Builds new markets and attracts new customers, complementing the work of a colleague who maintains strong relationships with major international clients
  • Expands the customer base with smaller international clients through market analysis and strategic sales initiatives

The rest of your focus lies on driving improvements and new ideas across the organization. You:

  • Introduce smarter processes and redefine roles where needed
  • Upgrade technologies and implement software that makes reporting and decision-making easier
  • Explore innovative ways to create added value, such as mixing peat with other raw materials directly on site
  • Guide the integration of Nurme Turvas within the larger group, making sure operations and strategy align seamlessly
  • Keep an eye on efficiency, making sure the organization continues to evolve and grow

Work setting

The peat harvesting area stretches across roughly 3000 football fields in the remote parts of Estonia.

Your week is split between AS Torf (one day) and Nurme Turvas (the rest). Much of your time is spent out in the field – driving across vast peatlands, checking operations, talking with foremen, or reviewing progress in the packaging facility. Daily contact with the team, both face-to-face and by phone, keeps everything running smoothly.

You work side by side with the owner of Nurme Turvas and AS Torf in Estonia. Together with a team of loyal, hardworking, and independent colleagues who take pride in their craft, you keep the business moving forward. During harvest season (around four months each year), the days are long and intense. Outside of that season, the focus shifts to preparing and maintaining the land, including clearing new peatlands for future use.
