R&D Engineer (Electrical Engineering)

maritime world – international setting – 32-40 hrs

As the only electrical engineer in Harderwijk, you will be working on the development of new products for the Product Line Davits – lifting solutions for rescue applications. You add specialist knowledge to the organisation, enabling it to move forward in the future. You also work on client specific projects, optimisation, and support the service department.

Your team
On the one hand, you are part of a small team of engineers in the Netherlands, being the team specialist as the only electrical engineer in the team. On the other hand, you will be part of an international center of excellence (R&D platform), working with an international team of electrical experts, enabling you to spar and exchange knowledge. You enjoy making regular visits to the locations abroad, or the headquarters in Austria.

Your knowledge
Based on specifications supplied by your mechanical colleagues, you design and check electrical systems. You design the control box, taking care of the control of winches and cylinders. You design the system overview in E-plan, ensuring system safety. Palfinger's focus is on a reliable, functional design that is maintenance-free. This is the guiding principle for your designs.

At present, there are three standard product portfolios with a total of 70 unique products. The aim is to reduce this number to 40 innovative, optimised products. You have a well-funded opinion on remaining basic choices that need to be made, for example in the area of control. Together with your colleagues you decide on options and strive for optimisation of the Davits products portfolio. In your decisions, you are able to find the right balance between optimal modularity and standardisation. You are also involved in the selection of components suppliers. You spar and consult with both your mechanical and hydraulic colleagues in the Netherlands, and your international electric colleagues, who possess a vast amount of specialist knowledge. In the Netherlands, you take a leading role in electrical matters and are a valuable addition to the team in your capacity of specialist.

Job requirements
You have a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or mechatronics, and relevant experience as an electrical engineer, for example in mechanical engineering, shipbuilding or process engineering. You have knowledge of E-plan or similar engineering software. You have a good oral command of the English language and preferably also speak Dutch. Flexible working hours are possible, as is working partly at the other Palfinger location in the Netherlands (Schiedam).

Personality traits
You have a decisive personality and a positive, cooperative work attitude. You take a leading role in electrical matters and feel comfortable being the expert in your field, while also being open to learning from others and making clever use of the knowledge available within the organisation. You are curious by nature and like the challenge of finding solutions that are both functional and creative. You are able to filter relevant information and details from highly detailed technical specifications and to translate these into an electrical design including electrical diagrams. You keep perspective and understand how your design and choices influence the whole process.

With your knowledge and experience as an electrical specialist you add thus far unavailable knowledge to the organisation. As a true team player you enjoy working together with your colleagues and contributing to the overall result. You feel at home in a small team with an open, informal working atmosphere.
